Lead Flight Test Engineer

1983 - 1996

  • Designed, implemented and conducted aircraft research programs at NASA Glenn Research Center:   

o    DC-9 microgravity research
o    Twin Otter icing research
o    Lear Jet laminar flow research
o    OV-10B acoustic performance research
o    T-34 image mapping research
o    1’x1’ Supersonic Wind Tunnel

  • Responsible for all mechanical engineering tasks for aeronautical flight research experiments. Structural modifications to air-frames, designs for equipment installation, with STC ratings with FAA certification. 

  • Engineering direction for Airworthiness Directives compliance for aircraft. Examples include; modification of DC-9 into micro-gravity research aircraft while maintaining STC rating with FAA, in-flight icing research, laminar flow studies, and engine noise abatement. 

  • Directed in-house and outside research organizations in experiment design and execution. 

  • Creation of government R&D contract proposals (DoD, FAA, USAF, NOAA, private industry). 

  • Field of expertise in compressible fluid dynamics, aircraft control and stability theory, micro-gravity research, and aircraft strength of materials analysis.   ​
